How to Get the Most out of Your Candles

We want to you to get the most out of your favorite candles. Here are our top tips to safely enjoying your candles. The steps are broken up into Pre burn, During the burn and Outing your candle. Let’s get started:

Pre Burn

  • The length of your wick is crucial to how well your candle will burn. Before you burn your candle, always ensure the wick has been trimmed to at least 1/4”. This will help prevent uneven burning,
  • Placement of your candle prior to burning is also crucial to a getting a good burn. Avoid placing your candle in drafts such as open windows, fans and air conditioning. Drafts can cause excessive soot and uneven burning.

While Burning

  •  Never leave your candle unattended especially around children and pets.
  • Burn your candle for at least 2-3 hours (or according to the warning label) to ensure an even burn. This will help prevent tunneling which drastically cuts the life of your candle.
  • Remember your candle container will become warm as it burns. If you need to move your container do so before lighting it.
  • Don’t burn your candle all the way down. Stop when there is 1/4” of wax left in the jar.
  • Never burn your candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep lit candles away from drapes, bedding, paper, furniture etc.
  • If burning multiple candles, keep them away at least 3 away from each other. This ensures they won’t melt one another or create their own drafts.

Outing Your Candle

  • Use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle. When you blow out a candle, the hot wax could splatter.
  • Before leaving your candle, ensure it is fully extinguished and there’s no glow in the wick.
  • Do not try to trim your wick until the container has fully cooled.
  • Never use water to extinguish your candle.
